Sperry Top-Sider has been an American favorite since 1935 when Paul Sperry, inspired by his dog Prince’s ability to run nimbly over ice and snow, used a pen knife to cut siping into the out-sole of a rubber sneaker. Sperrys, or Top-Siders, were the first boat shoes introduced into the boating and footwear markets. Today the Sperry brand is owned by Wolverine World Wide and is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts.
